Abstract: Objective To explore the best disinfection method and intervals for personal digital assistant ( PDA) . Methods A total of 112 PDAs in general surgical department were randomly divided into experimental group and control group, 56 respectively. PDAs were disinfected using 75% ethanol and cavi wipes respectively in two groups. Colony culture qualified rates before and after disinfection and different intervals were compared between two groups. Results Colony train qualified rate in experimental group was 91.07%, while in control group was 92. 86%. There was no significant difference in disinfection and sterilization between two groups ( P>0.05) . Disinfection intervals were 7 days in experimental group and 8 days in control group. Both groups had effective sterilization on PDAs. Conclusions 75% ethanol and cavi wipes have similar effects in PDA′s disinfection. Cavi wipes is more expensive, while the disinfection procedure of alcohol is more complex. The department could choose either based on its own condition.
