Abstract:
Benign prostatic hyperplasia ( BPH) is a common chronic disease in the elderly which seriously impact the quality of life of elderly men. Patients are prone to anxiety and depression as a result of disease.This paper reviews the epidemiological studies of depression in patients with BPH, and introduces the survey tools and the relationship between the depression status in patients with BPH and the severity of lower urinary tract symptoms ( LUTS) complicated with BPH. Studies showed that the incidence of depression in patients with BPH is higher than the general population,and the incidence of depression is as high as 22.4%, what′s more,the severity of depressive symptoms is most highly correlated with the severity of disease. The more serious of the LUTS, the higher of the incidence of depression is, and the more serious of the depression level is.
