Investigation and analysis of nurses′cognitive status and attitude toward to the hospice care in Taizhou region

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the cognition and attitude of hospice care among nurses in Taizhou region, and to analyse the related factors of concept deviation in hospice care. Methods The self-design questionnaires were given to 275 nurses in hospitals of different grades to investigate their cognition of hospice care, and to analyse different related factors (hospital grade, education level). The investigation results were compared and analyzed.Results Most of the nursing staff lack of hospice care knowledge, and there were only 10% nurses that were familiar with hospice care. There was no statistically significant difference between the different education level, hospital grade and the cognitive level toward hospice care ( P>0. 05 ) . As for the application of analgetic and side effects of morphine, there was no statistically significant difference among nurses in different hospitals ( P>0.05) , but it was correlated with education level ( P<0.05) . When it comes to the attitude toward death and the knowledge of euthanasia, there was no statistically significant difference ( P>0. 05) . 74% of nurses in this study thought that there exists a great developing space for hospice care. Conclusions The nursing staff of Taizhou region lack of knowledge about hospice care, but they accept the important value of hospice care in clinical work, and expect to receive related professional training education.
