Abstract:
Objective To investigate disease uncertainty and postpartum depression status for fathers of preterm infants and explore the relationship between them. Methods A total of 102 fathers of preterm infants were selected from April to December 2015 in our hospital as research object. We used Chinese version of parent′s parception uncertainty scale-family(PPUS-FM) and Edinburgh postnatal depression scale (EPDS) to survey those fathers by questionnaire and analyzed their disease uncertainty and postpartum depression by Spearman correlation analysis. Results The PPUS-FM level of preterm infants′ fathers was medium. The total score of PPUS-FM was (93.85±11.11);the total score of depression was (11.04±2.99), while 58 fathers (56.86%) felt depression. The score of postnatal depression was positively correlated with the total score of disease uncertainty ( r=0. 519, P<0.01) , with the uncertain of illness ( r=0.460,P<0.01) , with complexity ( r=0.475,P<0.01) , with incoherence (r=0. 351,P<0.01), and with unpredictability (r=0.385,P<0.01).Conclusions Fathers of preterm infants show a high level disease uncertainty and depression, and there is a positive correlation between them. Nurses should take effective measures to improve the disease uncertainty and depression states for fathers, and to improve the nursing quality.
