Abstract:
Objective To understand the ability of daily life and the relationship with cognitive ability and depression, to provide a basis for improving the ability of daily life for centenarians in Hainan. Methods Survey and questionnaires were carried out on 383 centenarians in 10 cities and counties, using Barthel index, mini-mental state scale(MMSE) and geriatric depression scale(GDS-15). SPSS 17.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results ADL of 12% elderly was completely normal, 66. 8% with functional decline, 21. 2% with obvious dysfunction;a total of 272 cases were investigated for cognitive function, finding 34(12.5%) completely normal, 238(87.5%) with cognitive dysfunction. Centenarians with cognitive disorder had a higher tendency to dysfunction than those without cognitive impairment(P<0.05). A number of 312 cases was investigated for depression, finding 169(54.2%) completely normal, 112(35.9%) with mild depression,31(9.9%) with severe depression. There was no difference about ADL between centenarians with mild and severe depression( P>0.05) . Conclusions ADL of centenarians in Hainan is overall good and is significantly influenced by the cognitive level, but not by depression.
