Abstract:
Objective To understand the status of repeated abortion, contraception and service demands in women of minority nationality. Methods We investigated 182 out-patients of gynaecology and obstetrics with repeated artificial abortion in minority nationality from a class Ⅲ grade I hospital in Xinjiang Urumqi city with questionnaire by means of general investigation. Results In patients of this group, the incidence of repeated abortion was 47.89% with 2-6 times [average of(2.67±0.92)]. The spacing interval to the previous abortion was 2-12 months [ average of ( 10. 36 ± 6. 68 ) ] . Besides, the rate of implementing contraception measures(36.3%) was low with 76.9% for using condoms. Moreover, most husbands(68.1%) had a positive attitude to contraception. In the respect of service demands, 80.3% of them thought the knowledge on contraception was needed, 90.1% of them thought conduct propaganda was a must, 80.2% of them thought the counseling on contraception was necessary. The approaches of obtaining contraception knowledge ranking in the top three were medical staff(73.6%), publicity materials and books, newspapers, magazines(53.8%), radio and television(28.6%). In addition, there was a statistically significant difference between effective and adopted contraception measures in patients(P<0.05).Conclusions The status of repeated abortion in this area is not optimistic. There is a large difference between cognition and behavior of contraception in patients. Because of this, it offers a new challenge for workers in family planning and professional and technical personnel.
