Nursing risk assessment and intervention methods of psychiatric inpatients

Abstract:
Objective To discuss the effects of applying all kinds of nursing risk assessment scale to hospitalized psychiatric patients in order to achieve safe management .Methods We chose a number of 9 292 hospitalized psychiatric patients between January 1,2013 and December 31,2014, and divide them into control group (4074 cases,admitted in 2013) and intervention group (5 218 cases,admitted in 2014)according to hospitalization time sequence .We implemented all kinds of nursing risk assessment scale to assess nursing risk and managed patients in intervention group , while the patients of control group received routine safe nursing interventions.Two groups′frequency of attack,self-injury and suicide, fall or drop bed,choking food,fleeing and constraints were compared .Results After the implementation of nursing risk management ,incidence of attacks caused others injury,self-injury and suicide, fall or drop bed,choking, constraints of intervention group were 0.21%,0.08%,0.34%,0.00%,18.91%, which were all lower than that of the control group (P<0.05);number of patients running away from hospital in the intervention group had no difference with that in the control group[8(0.15%) vs 7 (0.17%);P >0.05].Conclusions Nursing risk assessment and management for hospitalized psychiatric patients can effectively reduce the psychiatric accident and can help clinical nurses to manage in-patients directly and safely .
