Abstract:
Objective To deep understand the working emotional experiences of general ICU nurses and to provide references for nurses to better understand and cope with the emotional stress, in order to further develop their personality. Methods A qualitative method was applied to this study. 12 general ICU nurses were in-depth interviewed and the data were analyzed by Colaizzi. Results Three main themes were extracted including the sense of responsibility and pressure;sense of pride and inferiority;sense of ambivalence and guilt. Conclusions The ambivalent emotional experiences existed in general ICU nurses. Thus, the administrators should pay more attention to the working emotional stress and should enhance self-construction and organizational as well as family support, in order to improve their quality of nursing.
