Abstract:
Objective To assess the effects of high pressure and low pressure vacuum drainage for breast cancer patients after surgery. Methods We searched the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (February, 2014), MEDLINE (1983 to 2014), EMbase (1989 to 2014), CBMdisc(1978 to 2014) and Wanfang database (2001 to 2014) to collect randomized controlled trials. Three review authors independently determined the eligibility of each study. Data were extracted and Meta analyses were conducted for the eligible RCTs.
Results Six RCTs including 513 participants were identified. Six RCTs indicated that the high pressure vacuum drainage reduced the seroma formation of breast cancer patients after surgery ( OR =0. 31; 95%CI 0. 12-0. 83,P=0. 02), and could reduce the incidence of skin flap necrosis, local infection, the amount of drainage, shorten the time of hospital stay. Conclusions High pressure vacuum drainage provide an effective way after breast cancer surgery by reducing the seroma formation.
