Abstract: Objective To describe the status of work stress among the head nurses .Methods Totals of 388 cases in third-grade class-A hospitals in Chengdu were investigated with the Work Stress Scale .Results The average score of work stress of the head nurses was (38.70 ±7.14), and 53.35%head nurses'work stress was higher than the average level .The score of work stress varied with age , education degree , office term and work departments (F/t=3.013,4.329,4.240,2.879, respectively;P <0.05).Conclusions Work stress is a general psychological problem among the head nurses and it is important to take effective psychological intervention .
