Effect of Suxiao Jiuxin pill combined with rice vinegar on postherpetic neuralgia in herpes zoster patients

Abstract:
Objective To explore the effect of Suxiao Jiuxin pill combined with rice vinegar on the incidence rate of postherpetic neuralgia in herpes zoster patients.Methods Eighty outpatients and inpatients with herpes zoster were chosen and divided into the observation group and the control group according to the random number table,each with 40 cases.The control group received the antiviral drug acyclovir gel to treat the herpes,and the observation group received Suxiao Jiuxin pill combined with rice vinegar.The patients were evaluated by the visual analogue scale (VAS) during two months follow-up period,and it was defined as the occurrence of postherpetic neuralgia that the score of VAS was more than 0,and the more than 0 score of VAS was sustained more than 30 days.The incidence rate of postherpetic neuralgia was compared between two groups.Results The incidence rate of postherpetic neuralgia was 52.5 ％ (21/40) in the observation group,and was lower than 80％ (32/40) in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant (x2 =6.7645,P＜0.01).Conclusions The Suxiao Jiuxin pill combined with rice vinegar can decrease the incidence rate of postherpetic neuralgia following herpes zoster.
