Study on inpatient falls and its influencing factors among patients from Grade Three and Class AAA of Beijing

Abstract:
Objective To explore the characteristics and related factors of inpatient falls , so as to provide references for targeted nursing measures .Methods A total of fifty-seven inpatient fall which happened between 2009 and 2012 as well as their influencing factors were retrospectively analyzed .Results The average age of the 57 inpatients was (65.61 ±16.92)years.Sixty-four point nine percent of the falls happened at the night shift , at the noon and during the shift change period .Seventy-one point four percent falls happened on the holidays .Seventy-seven point two percent of the inpatients were given secondary care .Fifty-two point seven percent inpatients had nursing workers .However, 62.1%of them were not there when the inpatients fell down . Conclusions The related factors include age , shortage of nursing human resources , fewer ward rounds , nursing workers’ inability to care for patients and so on .To increase the nurse manpower allocation , reduce related factors and enhance education are fundamental ways to prevent inpatient falls .
