Evaluating application effect of medical messenger software on patients' rehabilitation guidance in Hand Surgery

Abstract:
Objective To evaluate application effect and significance of medical messenger on patients' rehabilitation guidance.Methods Two hundred and forty rehabilitation patients in hand and foot surgery from March 2011 to March 2012 were divided into the study group (n =120) and the control group (n =120).Patients in both groups were all receiving systematic functional rehabilitation training for 6 weeks (including passive and active m(o)tion exercise,strength training and occupational therapy for 45 main per day).Besides rehabilitation training,patients in the study group received rehabilitation-guidance messages sent by medical messenger on each Friday for 13 weeks.Function of the injured hand was assessed with Upper Extremity Functional Index (UEFI) and the active range of motion (AROM) at the 1,4,7,10,13 week,and patients'satisfaction was evaluated at the 4,7,13 week.The follow-up visit rate at the thirteenth week was analyzed in two groups.Results The thirteenth week follow-up results showed that UEFI of the control group improved from (0.75±0.14) to (2.99±0.13),and UEFI of the study group improved from (0.78 ±0.17) to (3.74 ±0.25),and the difference was statistically significant (t =3.50,P ＜ 0.05).Increase of AROM was (30 ± 1.25) ° in the control group,and (49 ± 2.94) ° in the study group,and the difference was statistically significant (t =7.72,P ＜ 0.05).Satisfactory rate of the control group was (70 ± 6.92),and was (94 ± 4.28) in the study group,and the difference was statistically significant (t =2.05,P ＜ 0.05).Follow-up visit rate of the control group was 75％,of the study group was 98％.Conclusions The application of medical messenger software on patients' rehabilitation guidance can increase the level of active participation of patients,accelerate the progress of rehabilitation,improve the effectiveness of rehabilitation,and increase patients' self-confidence of returning to society.
