Effect of clinical nursing pathway on health education for patients after caesarean section

Abstract:
Objective To explore the effect of nursing pathway table on health education for patients after caesarean section.Methods A total of 300 pregnant women hospitalized in the department of gynaecology and obstetrics of Shanghai Minhang District Central Hospital from January to May 2012 were chosen and randomly divided into the observation group and the control group,each with 150 cases.The control group received conventional nursing methods and traditional health education,while the observation group received nursing according to the nursing and health education pathway table for patients after caesarean section.Two groups' average day and cost of hospitalization,level of health knowledge and satisfaction were compared.Results The average day and cost of hospitalization was (4.31 ±0.25) d and (5 452.01±718.92) yuan in the observation group,both were lower than those in the control group [(5.47 ± 0.15) d,(6 427.31 ± 820.39)yuan],and the differences were statistically significant (t =0.06,0.17,respectively; P < 0.01).The level of health knowledge was 86.00% in the observation group and 68.67% in the control group,patients' satisfaction rate was 96.67% in the observation group and 87.33% in the control group,and the differences were statistically significant (x2 =12.81,8.85,respectively;P < 0.01).Conclusions Application of nursing and health education pathway table can help regulate nursing process,increase working efficiency and nursing quality,reduce hospitalization days and cost and improve patients' grasp of health knowledge and satisfaction,which fit the service aim of "Three goodness and one satisfaction" brought up by Ministry of Health.
