Effect of operation safety check list on the surgical risk reducing in surgical team

Abstract:
Objective To discuss the effect of operation safety check list on ensuring the whole operation process implementation for surgical team.Methods Totals of 3 8767 patients between May 2010 and March 2011 were selected as observation group,during operation process,every patients was checked with the "operation safety check list" by three parties including surgeon,anesthesiologists and nurse,no safety steps were missed.And 3 5195 patients between May 2009 and February 2011 without application of "operation safety check list" were involved as control group.The security checking effect in two groups were observed and analyzed.Results In observation group,the adds rate of correcting mistakes was 1.45％,all operation were correct patients,correct sites,and correct procedures,no accident happened.While in control group,the incidence of no spire lamella(0.44％ ),no sign in surgical sites (0.65％),lacking of operation consent (0.12％),no skin preparation (0.22％),red or damaged in local skin (0.30％)and adds rate of correcting mistakes (1.74％) were significantly higher than that of observation group ( 0.00％,0.00％,0.00％,0.00％,0.00％,0.00％,respectively,x2=172.2,254.13,47.39,86.00,116.93,680.86;P＜0.05).Conclusions The application of "Surgical safety Checklist" in surgical team can ensure fast and effective surgical check,and improve the communication among surgical team.It can make the operation safety,reliability and can be used as the burden of proof for medical disputes.
