Abstract:
Objective To investigate and compare the effect of the intravenous infusion by the jugular vein and femoral vein catheter in NICU.Methods 160 infants admitted to hospital were randomly divided into the jugular vein group and the femoral vein group with 80 patients in each group. The duration of time, success rate of the first puncture and complications were observed in patients with indwelling needle tracer. Results Retention time in the jugular vein group (7.26 ± 2.16) d was shorter than that of the femoral vein group (9.87 ± 2.93) d (t =-6.25,P < 0,05).No difference was found for the success rate of the first puncture (P > 0.05).Occurrence of phlebitis, blockage, drop off, extravasation, oozing of blood, and local infection were all lower in the femoral vein group (x2 =8.41,7.83,4.10,4.78,5.77,5.77,respectively; P < 0.05).Conclusions Femoral venous catheter for the NICU patients has extended retention time, lower complications, less pain, lower costs and is worth for promotion.
