Effect of group counseling on job burnout of nurses

Abstract:
Objective To establish the model of group counseling for nurse and observe the effects on job burnout of the nurses.Methods Totals of 40 nurses with occupation burnout were randomly divided into control group (n =20) and experimental group (n =20).During the operation,eight times group counseling applied in the experimental group and traditional head nurse heart-to-heart talking was applied in the control group.Nurses were tested with nurse job burnout scale (NBS) before and after intervention.Results No significant difference was found in the NBS,pressure source,occupation burnout,personality characteristic,coping style,physiological and psychological symptom scores between two groups before the intervention (P>0.05).The experimental group,as compared to control group,the scores of NBS,pressure source,occupation burnout,personality characteristics,coping style,physiological and psychological symptom were statistically lower after the intervention [(144.15 ±5.37) vs (186.95 ±6.38),(43.95 ±2.52) vs (46.95 ±2.37),(23.05 ±1.70) vs (34.35 ±2.23),(23.35 ±2.06) vs (33.70±1.95),(15.80±1.82) vs (25.05 ±2.11),(38.00 ± 2.10) vs (46.90 ± 5.21) ;t =22.951,3.874,18.016,16.325,14.814,7.084,respectively; P <0.01].The values of heavy workload,non-nursing work to ambiguity,somatic symptoms in two groups had no significant differences (P > 0.05).Conclusions The group counseling mode established by researcher can relieve the job burnout of the nurse.
