Effect of step-by-step interactional health education model on the quality of home care in tube feeding patients after stroke

Abstract:
Objective To evaluate the benefits of step-by-step interactional health education model in improving the home care quality in tube feeding patients after stroke.Methods Totals of 60 main home care givers of patients who received tube feeding after stroke were randomly divided into 2 groups.The test group was given step-by-step interactional health education model,which main home care givers received the health education about the relevant knowledge and demonstration operation process in the 1st ~5th day,operation notes and exercise in 6th-10th day,demonstrated the notes and finished the operation under the help of nurses in 11th ~15th day; while the control group was given standard health education model.Then,the skill of tube feeding,overall nursing knowledge,and patients' satisfaction on the nursing of two groups were observed on the 15th day,and the situation of tube indwelling was observed during 28 days after discharge by phone.Results The scores of nursing knowledge and tube feeding skills of test group were ( 8.23 ± 1.0l ) and( 38.07 ± 2.63 ),and those of the control group were ( 5.73 ± 0.98 ) and ( 24.53 ±3.40 ),and the difference was statistically significant ( t=9.75,17.25,respectively; P < 0.01 ).The situation of tube indwelling of test group during 28 days after discharge by phone was significantly better than that of control group ( P< 0.01 ).Conclusions The step-by-step interactional health education model can improve the quality of home care in tube feeding patients after stroke,promote the patients satisfaction of nursing skills and procedures.
