Investigation on the requirement of supportive care in patients with gynecologic cancer

Abstract:
Objective To identify the status and influential factors of supportive care needs in patients with gynecologic cancer undergoing treatment. Methods 100 women diagnosed with gynecologic cancer participated in this descriptive study by completing a self-report questionnaire (Supportive Care Needs Survey).Results The women in this study reported experiencing issues across all five domains: patient support and care (3.51 ± 0.47), health system and information (3.25 ± 0.51), physical and daily living (2.22 ± 0.68),psychological (2.21 ±0.59), and sexuality (1.74 ± 1.24). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the patients with medical insurance, married, and well-educated were inclined to have more needs in health system and information domain(F = 16.415, P ＜ 0.05, R2 = 0.321) ; the person who had tumor recurrence or family history tended to have higher mental pressure(F = 19.335, P ＜0.05 ,R2 =0.295) ; the persons who were junior or married tended to have more sexual needs(F = 19.840, P ＜0.05R2 =0.0414). Conclusions There is a higher level of supportive care needs and health system and information needs in undergoing treatment; and there is significantly different in the psychological needs and experience. Nurses must identify the supportive care needs of women with gynecologic cancer adequately and correcdy, and provide assist timely according to their expectation in order to meet the patients' needs and to accelerate the recovery.
