Influence of nursing intervention on self-esteem level and quality of life in patients with epilepsy

Abstract:
Objective To discuss the influence of nursing intervention on self-esteem level and quality of life in patients with epilepsy.Methods 60 cases of epilepsy patients were randomly divided into observation group (30 cases) and control group (30 cases). Both groups received in-hospital health education while the observation group received nursing intervention after discharge. Self-esteem Scale (SES), Feelings of Inadequacy Scale (FIS) and Quality of Life Scale in Patients with Epilepsy (QOLJE31) were used on discharge and one year later.Results There was no significant difference of SES or FIS scores on discharge (P<0.05) but there was one year later (P>0.05). The observation group obtained higher QOLJE31 scores on discharge than the control group. There was significant difference between the two groups (P<0.01). There was no significant difference of QOLJE31 scores on discharge compared with one year later of the control group (P>0.05).Conclusions Nursing intervention plays a positive role in eliminating inferiority feelings, enhancing self-esteem and promoting quality of life in patients with epilepsy.
