Application of low allergy medical tape in the eye protection of the patients under general anesthesia

Abstract: Objective To assess the efficiency and safety of a newly-used medical tape (3M TransporeTM) in the eye protection of the patients under general anesthesia. Methods 360 consecutive patients underwent general anesthesia were enrolled. Eyes were closed with the low allergic medical tape. Postoperative eye complications were observed. Results The incidence of eye complications of 80 cases patients after head and face operation were 6.25%, 280 cases of non face and head were 1. 1%. The incidence rate of eye complications of general anesthesia over 4 h and the patients over 60 years old were high (χ2 = 5. 132,4.978 ;P < 0. 05). There is no statistics meaning of the difference between incidence rate of eye complications after different transfusion volume(χ2 = 3. 585, P > 0. 05 ), the incidence rate of the patient with recumbent position and long time operation is high, the difference has statistical meaning (χ2 = 9.64, P < 0. 05 ). Conclusions The low-allergic medical tape is an efficient and safe method in the eye protection of the patients under general anesthesia.
