Study of fast urethral catheterization in wounded soldiers during the transportation of medical train

Abstract: Objective To investigate an effective method for enhancing the operative efficiency of urethral catheterization in wounded soldiers during the transportation of medical train. Methods Routine and fast urethral catheterization techniques were employed in 88 patients who received operation. The time and bacterial culture in mucosa of urethral orifice before catheter insertion were compared between the two techniques. Results The time for fast urethral catheterization was significantly shortened from 67 to 70 seconds compared with the rourine technique. It only took 25 percent of the whole time to accomplish the operation.There was no significant difference in bacterial culture in mucosa of urethral orifice before catheter insertion between the two techniques. Fast urethral catheterization could save 25 percent of the gross cost. Conclusions Fast urethral catheterization increase operative efficiency, ensure effectiveness of sterilization and save the cost,which was more appropriate for wounded soldiers during the transportation of medical train.
