Intervention effect of mental nursing by stages on the depression status in elderly patients with stroke

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the effects of mental nursing on improving the depression and the quality of life in elderly patients with stroke. Methods 62 elderly patients with stroke were randomly divided into the treatment group and control group with 31 cases in each group. All patients of the two groups were treated with routine therapy and mental nursing, and patients of the control group received the mental nursing by stages additionally. SCL-90 symptom self-rating scale and MBI daily living ability scale were used to assess the effects after mental nursing. Results The differences of SCL-90 factors of obsessive-compulsive syndrome, depression, anxiety, hostility, phobia and psychotic symptoms had significantly statistical meaning (P < 0.01) in the treatment group compared to the control group. When compared within the group, the scores of the above factors obviously decreased after the therapy in the treatment group, and the difference had statistical meaning before and after the treatment (P <0.01). MBI scores of beth groups increased, but the scores of the treatment group were higher than those of the control group. The difference had statistical meaning (P < 0.01).Conclusions The depression status, rehabilitation of neurological function and the quality of life of post-stroke are improved obviously by mental nursing.
