Abstract:
Objective To explore the effect of modified electroconvulsive therapy (MECT) on cognitive function of patients with depression disorder. Methods Thirty-five depression patients were divided into MECT group and drug group. The MECT group was treated with MECT and SSRIs therapy, while the drug group was treated by SSRIs.HAMA,WCST,IGT and WAIS-RC were measuredat baseline at 2 weeks and 4 weeks afteRthe treatment, respectively. Results HAMD scores were significantly loweRthan the baseline afteRtreatment (P<0.05).There were no significant differences in IGT and WCST scores between the two groups at 2-week follow-up.However,there was significant difference at 4-week follow-up (P<0.05).There was also significant difference in WAIS-RC digit span scores among between MECT group and drug group at 2-week follow-up (P<0.05 oRP<0.01),but there was no significant difference at baseline and 4-week follow-up (P>0.05).Conclusion AfteRMECT treatment, the depression disordeRpatients′executive function and emotion decision function don′t change at the short term, but working memory decrease.MECT can improve executive function and emotion decision function of the depression patients at the long term, and it also has no impact on working memory.
