Abstract:
Craniosynostosis is a common congenital craniofacial deformity caused by the premature ossification and closure of one or more cranial sutures. Premature closure of the cranial sutures will not only cause abnormal skull shape, but also lead to a variety of nervous system complications and neuropathological damage, such as increased intracranial pressure, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformation and neuropsychological dysfunction.In view of the potentially serious consequences of craniosynostosis, such patients should be intervened as soon as the diagnosis is clear, and surgical treatment should be performed if necessary to improve the prognosis. Based on the published literatures, this paper reviewed three aspects: the complications caused by craniosynostosis itself, the neuropathic damage and the possible complications after orthopedic surgery.
