Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To observe the effects of Gua Sha therapy on histomorphological changes,substance P (SP) and nerve growth factor(NGF) in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) of rat models,and to explore neuroprotective effects of Gua Sha therapy on lumbar disc herniation(LDH) model rats.METHODS A total of 72 male SD rats were divided into 3 groups ran-domly:sham operation group,model group and Gua Sha group(n =24).The sham operation group were treated with sham op-eration;the rat model of LDH was established by using autologous nucleus pulpous.Gua Sha group were given Gua Sha thera-py on the 5th day after the model establishment.Sham operation group and model group were given no therapy intervention. The ipsilateral L5 DRGs were removed to detect the morphological changes after HE staining and to measure the expression of SP and NGF by immune-histochemistry on the 4th day after operation(before intervention),the 6th day after intervention,the 12h day after intervention,and the 18th day after intervention(at the end of intervention).RESULTS Compared with sham operation group,model group showed significantly increased expression of SP and NGF(P < 0.01).In different treatment times(the 6th,12th and 18th days),Compared with the model group,the expression level of SP in DRG significantly decreased in the Gua Sha group(P <0.01),while NGF significantly increased(P <0.01).As the treatment time lasted,the index chan-ges were the more obvious.HE staining results showed that no obvious inflammation reaction were found in sham operation group,and the immune-inflammatory reaction of DRG in Gua Sha group was obviously alleviated.CONCLUSION Gua Sha therapy can alleviate pathological damage of DRG in rats,inhibit the expression of inflammatory factor SP,promote protein ex-pression of NGF and protect the nerve.
