Abstract:
Objective To investigate influence of continued-nursing on physical and mental health for elderly patients with spinal cord injury. Methods A total of 80 elderly spinal cord injury patients (ASIA grade A) were selected in our department and divided into observation and control groups based on random number table method. The control group received conventional nursing and discharge guidance, while observation group received continued-nursing for 6 months after discharge, including telephone follow-up, family visit, and theme education activities.Self-care ability and psychological states before and after intervention were evaluated. Results The scores of Functional Independence Measurement (FIM), HAMA, and HAMD showed no significant difference in both groups before intervention(P>0.05).However, the scores above in observation group had significant difference after 6 months of continued-nursing than that of control group (P<0.01).The incidence of complication in observation group was lower. Conclusion Continued-nursing can improve the rehabilitation adherence and self-management ability of elderly spinal cord injury patients after discharge, and reduce the incidence of complications.
