Abstract:
Objective To explore the microbicidal efficacy of StellaTM 5 L sterilization system for flexible choledochoscope. Methods The surfaces and working channels of 3 cholangioscopes were contaminated with suspensions of Bacillus atrophaeus(ATCC9372).Among the three scopes, one scope was randomly selected to count the bacterial load in the recoveries from the surface and channel. The other two endoscopes were manually cleaned and rinsed. One scope was randomly selected to count bacterial presence on the surface and working channel, and the rest endoscope was sterilized by a StellaTM 5L endoscopic sterilization system, and then bacterial count of the surface and working channel was performed. The process was repeated for 20 cycles to evaluate the microbicidal efficacy of the StellaTM 5L endoscopic sterilization system. Results From an initial contamination level of (7.10×106±0.81×106) cfu/mL,(7.11×106±1.33×106) cfu/mL on the surface and channel of the chlangioscopes, respectively, bacterial count was reduced to(4.82×102±0.91×102)cfu/mL, (3.15×103±3.24×102) cfu/mL, respectively, after manual cleaning, but no micro-organisms were discovered in 20 cycles with the StellaTM 5L system. Conclusion This study shows that StellaTM 5 L system is capable of delivering the complete elimination of contaminating micro-organisms in a reduced time and eliminates the toxic risk of reprocessing associated with Chlorine based disinfectants.
