Abstract: Objective To analyze the complications of PICC in the low birth weight infants (LBWI)and to explore the optimal catheter-indwelling approach so as to put forward the detailed management strategies on catheter.Methods The conditions 80 low birth weight infants with PICC were retrospectively analyzed.The stitch counts,tube plugging rate,phlebitis,catheter mis-placement and difficulties in injection pipelines of venipuncture in upper and lower limbs were com-pared.Results The vein catheterization complications in upper limbs were relatively lower than those in the lower limbs,but the catheter misplacement rate and tube feeding difficulty was more than lower limbs vein.The rate of phlebitis and tube plugged in lower limbs were higher than that in upper limbs.Conclusion Choosing the best puncture position,grasping the anatomical charac-teristics and skills of different vein and strengthening detailed managements can effectively reduce the complications of PICC,relieve pain and improve efficiency.
