Prevalence of hepatitis C virus infection in volunteer blood donors in Huzhou area

Abstract: Objective To estimate the prevalence of anti-hepatitis C virus (HCV) positivity among blood donors from Huzhou,and to determine risk factors associated with infection.Methods Data were collected from volunteer blood donors between 2009 and 2013.Anti-HCV test and the confirmation test with RIBA and RT-PCR were performed.Information about voluntary blood donors was colleted,then donors who were confirmed HCV seropositive were retrospectively analyzed by statistical comparison.Result The prevalence of anti-HCV positivity was (0.84 ± 0.04) ‰.The predominant genotype currently circulating in Huzhou area was 1 b.There were obvious difference in the incidence among different volunteer blood donors (P ＜ 0 01).Conclusion The rate of HCV infection was much lower in Huzhou area,and there were obvious difference in the incidence and genotype among different volunteer blood donors.
