Abstract:
Objective To investigate the ultrastructure changes of the cells infected with enterovirus 71 (EV71) and location of virus particles in the cells. Methods Ultrathin sections of RD-A infected with EV71 were prepared and observed under a transmission electron microscope. Results Ultrastructure changes in the cells infected with EV71 include the followings:formation and proliferation of cytoplasmic bilaminated and muhilaminated membranes vesicular structures, formation of inclusion body, nuclear pyknosis, denaturation of mitochondria, distention of endoplasmic reticulum and degradation of host cells.EV71 virus particles locate in cytoplasm and vesicles,on surface of cytoplasmic membrane, within inclusion bodies,in endoplasmic reticulum cistern-like structures and in myelin figures. Conclusion Infection of EV71 in vitro can induce significant ultrastructural changes of host cells and virus particles present in diverse ultrastructures of host cell.
