Distribution of TCM syndrome elements in patients with diabetic nephropathy:a literature review

Abstract:
Objective To reveal the distribution of the TCM syndrome elements in patients with diabetic nephropathy ( DN) , by searching the literature of TCM diagnosis and treatment on DN. Methods Relevant lit-eratures on treating DN by syndrome differentiation of TCM were retrieved in CNKI, Wangfang Data and VIP from the beginning to August 9 th , 2014. Syndrome elements of disease nature or of disease location were analyzed from 159 eligible literature divided into two parts:syndrome differentiation only ( n=111 ) and syndrome differentiation combined with clinical stage (n=48). Results From the litrature of syn-drome differentiation only, kidney and spleen were the most common syndrome elements of disease loca-tion, while yin deficiency was the most common syndrome elements of disease nature. By the contrast, from the literature of syndrome differentiation combined with clinical stage, the main syndrome elements of location were kidney, spleen and liver and the most common syndrome element of nature was yin defi-ciency at early stage;at middle stage, the main elements of location were kidney and spleen and of nature was deficiency syndrome including yin deficiency, yang deficiency and qi deficiency; at end stage, the main elements of location were still kidney and spleen and of nature was yin-yang deficiency. Conclusion Study on syndrome elements of DN from literature is favorable for standardization of clinical syndrome differentiation and providing reference for therapy.
