Abstract:
Objective To compare the efficacy of infiltration of vestibular white spot lesions (incipient caries) in incisors and canines shortly after removal of orthodontic brackets. Methods In this study, thirty subjects with age between 15 and 18 years old were selected and treated with one kind of infiltration resin:Icon-infiltrant (DMG,Hamburg,Germany).Standardized intraoral images were taken before and after treatment for 1 month,3 months and 6 months.Image analysis software:Image-Pro Plus 6.0 (Media Cybernetics,U S A) was used to quantify the visible areas of the demineralized lesions. The measurement data before and after using the infiltrant resin for 1 month,3 months and 6months were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 software package. Results In the incisor, the aera of white spot lesions was greatly reduced after using it[(29.29 ± 9.62)%] and for 1 month[(22.21 ±6.94)%],3 months [(26.43 ± 7.85) %] and 6 months [(22.82 ± 8.11) %] compare to that before treatment [(41.36 ± 13.21)%] (P< 0.001).And the outcome of the lateral incisor and the canine was similar to the incisor. Conclusions During the observing period of this study, infiltrant resin is effective in reducing the white spot lesion size, but further researches are needed for long-term results.
