Abstract:
Melatonin,a lipophilic molecule that is mainly synthesized in the pineal gland, performs various neuroprotective functions. It can protect nerve cells by antioxidation and antiapoptosis. The occurrence of nervous system diseases is closely related to oxidative damage and apoptosis. The protective effects of melatonin on neurons and its underlying mechanism were reviewed in this study,in order to provide a theoretical basis for the clinical application of melatonin in the treatment of neurological diseases.
