Abstract:
Objective To investigate the correlation among the levels of serum resistin, adiponectin and leptin, the carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) and the stability of plaque in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).Methods A total of 60 T2DM patients were in T2DM group,50 patients with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) were in IGT group, and 50 healthy volunteers were in the control group.Fasting serum resistin, adiponectin, and leptin were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and the IMT and plaque formation were measured. Results Serum Resistin (RET) in IGT group and T2DM group were (3.26 ± 1.85),(4.61 ±2.08)ng · mL-1,leptin (LEP) were (1.83 ±0.09),(3.10±0.15)ng · mL-1,adiponectin (APN) were (3.57 ±0.11),(1.61 ±0.12)μg· mL-1,IMT were (1.15 ± 0.04),(1.59 ± 0.12) mm,and the detection rates of atheromatous plaque were 10.00% and 51.67%,and differences of the above parameters were significant (P < 0.05).RET of T2DM patients in no plaques group, stable plaques group and unstable plaques group were (3.01 ± 1.25),(4.17 ± 1.08) and (5.35 ±1.16)ng · mL-1 respectively;LEP were (1.33 ±0.15),(2.21 ±0.12)and(3.15 ±0.17)ng · mL-1 respectively;APN were (2.81 ± 0.10),(1.95 ± 0.09) and (1.14 ± 0.12) μg · mL-1 respectively, and all the parameters were with statistical significance among the three groups (P < 0.05).RET was found positively correlated with LEP (P <0.01),and APN was negatively correlated with RET and LEP respectively (P < 0.01).Conclusion The increased levels of serum RET,LEP,and APN in T2DM patients are closely related with the bodiness of carotid artery IMT,the formation of the plaque and the stability.
