Effect and safety of adjuvant treatment with Xuebijing for gastrointestinal malignancy-associated peritonitis

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the effects of Xuebijing on the gastrointestinal malignancy-associated peritonitis.Methods A total of 60 patients with gastrointestinal malignancy-associated peritonitis were randomly divided into treatment group ( n =28 ) and control group (n=32).Patients in control group were given simple antibiotic therapy, while those in treatment group were given Xuebijing 50 mL twice a day combined with simple antibiotic therapy for 7 days.The data of white blood cell count, the clinical efficacy, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin levels, TNF-α, IL-6 level before and after treatment were compared.Results The results showed clinical symptoms of treatment group improved significantly.The effective rate in treatment group was 92.85%and 68.75% in control group.The data of white blood cell count, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin levels, TNF -α, IL -6 decreased significantly in both groups, while the treatment group showed a more sig-nificant decrease ( P<0.05 ).There were two cases of pruritus in treat-ment group.Conclusion Xuebijing for gastrointestinal malignancy -associated peritonitis has positive therapeutic effect on white blood cell count, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin level, TNF-α, IL-6 level, and can effectively improve fever, abdominal distension, abdominal pain and other complications.
