Abstract:
Objective To investigate the relationships between serum visfatin and glucose and lipid metabolism in type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Methods ELISA method was employed to measure the serum vifatin levels between 110 T2DM cases (T2DM group) and 80 healthy controls (control group), and the levels of the indices of the glucose and lipid metabolism were detemined. Results The semm levels of the visfatin were considerably higher in both the non-obese and obese subgroup in T2DM group than those in the control group, showing significant differences between two groups(P< 0.01, t=26.545, 15.111, 25.017, 14.764 respectively). No significant differences were noted between the non-obese and obese subgroup in both two groups (P> 0.05,t=0.760,1.506). The level of the visfafin was positively related to WHR,FBG, HbA1c,HOMA-IR,TC and LDL-C in the T2DM group and negatively to HDL-C,all P< 0.01. Multiple stepwise regression results showed that WHR and HbA1c were predominant factors affeeting the visfatin levels(R2=0.547,0.033 respectively). Conelusion Increased visfatin proves to be directly associated with glucose and lipid metabolism in T2DM, acting as one of the major adipoeytokines connecting the glucose and lipid metabolism.
