- Abstract: The incidence of neurodegenerative diseases （ND） is increasing every year， posing a serious threat to human health. Neuroinflammation plays an important role in the development and progression of ND and is a common pathological feature of many types of ND. As a defense mechanism， neuroinflammation initially has beneficial effects by promoting tissue repair and removing cellular debris， but a persistent inflammatory response is detrimental and can inhibit regeneration and exacerbate nerve injury. Microglia and astrocytes are key regulators in neuroinflammation. Modulating neuroinflammation improves neurological symptoms and slows the progression of ND.
