- Abstract: Inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor (IP3R),which is a calcium ion (Ca2+) channel in the endoplasmic reticulum, participates in cellular biological functions through regulating the Ca2+ signal, and it is a key molecule in maintaining the normal function of the central nervous system. In recent years, more and more studies have found that the structural and functional abnormalities of IP3Rs are closely related to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease,Parkinson disease,Huntington disease, and spinocerebellar ataxia. However,it remains unclear how these structural and functional abnormalities affect the function of IP3Rs and the related calcium signal as well as the pathogenesis and severity of neurodegenerative diseases. This paper reviews the role of IP3Rs in neurodegenerative diseases.
