- Abstract: The incidence rate of thyroid cancer is rising rapidly worldwide, and the academic community has different views on its causes. Some believe that thyroid cancer is caused by over-diagnosis,but according to a large sample of epidemiological studies, its incidence rate is rising. The latest study reports that the mortality rate of thyroid cancer in the United States is on the rise, which may be related to the downgrade of diagnosis and treatment for papillary thyroid cancer according to the ATA guidelines. The mortality rate in Asian countries such as South Korea is showing a decreasing trend over time, which might be related to the active diagnosis and treatment measures. The 5-year survival rate of thyroid cancer in China has increased from 67.5%in 2003-2005 to 84.3%in 2012-2015,which still lags far behind 98.3%in the United States.Considering the differences in homogeneous diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer in China,if we blindly follow the guidelines of other countries,it may lead to an increase in the mortality rate of thyroid cancer in China.
