4.Factors associated with Behaviors that Reduce Exposure to Environmental Hormones among Nursing Students

PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine the factors associated with behavior that reduces exposure to environmental hormones among nursing students.METHODS: Data were collected from 160 nursing students in D and B cities, using self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0, and the analyses included descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient test, and stepwise multiple regression.RESULTS: Behavior that reduces exposure to environmental hormones differed significantly in terms of the participants' knowledge about environmental hormones. Behavior that reduces exposure to environmental hormones was negatively correlated with knowledge of environmental hormones, attitude towards pro-environmental behavior, and environmental self-efficacy; these factors were significant predictors of behavior that reduces exposure to environmental hormones, and accounted for 27.0% of the variance.CONCLUSION: Environmental self-efficacy was identified as the most significant factor affecting behavior that reduces exposure to environmental hormones in nursing students. Therefore, it is necessary to develop programs to improve pro-environmental behavior and environmental self-efficacy in nursing students.

5.Types of Male College of Nursing Students' Adaptation to Their Academic Department.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to determine the types and characteristics of male college nursing students' adaptation to their academic department. METHODS: Q methodology was applied to determine the subjectivity of the male nursing students' adaptation to their academic department. Fifty male nursing students were asked to select and answer questions among a set of 36 Q-statements using a 9-point scale. The collected data were analyzed using the PC QUANL program. RESULTS: Three types of male students' adaptation to the department of nursing were identified. Type I was termed ‘resilience-acceptance’, Type II, ‘inner-conflict’, and Type III, ‘goal-oriented’. CONCLUSION: The study results can be used as the basic data needed to develop nursing interventions suitable to the types of male college nursing students' adaptation to their academic department.

6.Development and Evaluation of the e-learning Orientation Program for Nursing Student's Adapting to Clinical Practicum.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to develop an e-learning orientation program for nursing students(junior), to evaluate the program, and to find out its effects on adapting to clinical practicum. METHODS: The e-learning orientation program was developed according to ADDIE model(analysis, design, develop, implement, evaluate) using an Active Tutor Program. Twelve nursing professionals and 31 nursing students(learners) evaluated the e-learning orientation program. Thirty one nursing students participated in the e-learning orientation program both on-line and off-line. RESULTS: The e-learning orientation program consisted of 5 parts including 'Taking a lesson in gastrointestinal tract', 'Fundamental nursing skill and reading a medical chart', 'Taking a ward orientation by head nurse', 'Clinical practice with preceptors', and 'Writing for case report'. Adapting scores to clinical practicum were significantly different between pre-test and post-test(t=-5.76, p=.000). CONCLUSION: The e-learning orientation program of on-line and off-line has an effect on adapting to clinical practicum for nursing students.

7.A Study on the Nursing Students' Knowledge, Attitudes and Behavior towards the Elderly.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between nursing students' level of knowledge of and attitude toward the elderly and their behavior towards the elderly. METHODS: For this study, 223 nursing students participated. The data was analyzed with PASW statistics program version 18.0 using descriptive statistics, a t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. RESULTS: The findings of the study displayed a score of 14.5 out of 25 for the level of knowledge of the elderly, a score of 3.9 out of 7 on the attitude toward the elderly, and 1.3 points on a 4-point scale on behavior towards the elderly. There was a positive correlation (r=.410, p<.001) between attitude and behavior towards the elderly, thus confirming that attitude towards the elderly influences behavior towards them. CONCLUSION: The most influential variable on the behavior towards the elderly emerged to be attitude. Thus, although knowledge and attitude cannot be neglected in manifesting positive behaviors in nursing students when they care for the elderly, knowledge training and elderly nursing practical sessions need to take place in order to strengthen attitude, which displayed a positive correlation with behavior.

8.The Effect of Emotional Labor of Clinical Practice, Self-esteem and Clinical Practice Satisfaction on Professional Identity in Nursing Students.

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to explore the factors affecting emotional labor, self-esteem and clinical practice satisfaction on professional identity in nursing students. METHODS: A total of 262 nursing students participated in the study. Data were analyzed using SPSSWIN 18.0. RESULTS: The mean scores for emotional labor, self-esteem, clinical practice satisfaction and professional identity were above-average. There were significant mean differences in professional identity according to ages, academic score, motivation for selecting nursing, satisfaction with college life and satisfaction with nursing majors. Professional identity correlated positively with self-esteem and clinical practice satisfaction, negatively with emotional labor. The significant predictors of professional identity included satisfaction with nursing majors, self-esteem, emotional labor and motivation for selecting nursing. The regression model explained 38.9% of professional identity. CONCLUSION: To enhance professional identity in nursing students, it is necessary to build effective strategic to focus on promoting their satisfaction with the nursing major, self-esteem and management of emotional labor.

9.The Effects of Learning Styles and Nursing Professional Attitude on Problem-Solving Ability among Nursing Students.

PURPOSE: The effects of learning styles and nursing professional attitude on the problem-solving ability among nursing students were explained. METHODS: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed with 245 nursing students who completed self-report questionnaires between April 14 and May 7, 2014. RESULTS: The dominant learning styles of the nursing students were assimilating (33.9%) and diverging (33.1%), with converging (11.4%) being the least dominant. Nursing professional attitude in the nursing students was high (mean 65 out of 80). Problem-solving ability in the nursing students was high (mean 159 out of 225), especially among seniors. The relationship between learning styles and problem-solving ability in nursing students was not statistically significant (F=2.44, p=.065), even though nursing students with converging learning style had higher problem-solving ability than nursing students with other learning styles. The problem-solving ability of nursing students was influenced by nursing professional attitude, being a senior and preference for discussion. These variables explained 16.9% of the variance in problem-solving ability. Nursing professional attitude with 12.3% was the most influential. CONCLUSION: The problem-solving ability of nursing students was more influenced by nursing professional attitude than by learning styles. Therefore, we suggest strategies to develop a positive nursing professional attitude that leads to promoting the problem-solving ability of nursing students.

10.Effects of Social Support and Self-efficacy on Hope among Nursing Students.

PURPOSE: This study was conducted in order to explore the factors affecting the hope in nursing students. METHODS: A total of 166 nursing students participated in the study. Data was analyzed using SPSS WIN 18.0. RESULTS: The mean scores for social support, self-efficacy, and hope were above-average level. There were significant mean differences in hope according to religion, academic achievement, and satisfaction with nursing majors. Hope correlated positively with social support and self-efficacy. The significant predictors of hope included social support and satisfaction with the nursing major. The regression model explained 12.7% of hope. CONCLUSION: To improve hope in nursing students, nursing educators should focus on promoting their social support and satisfaction with the nursing major.
