The first study on chemical constituents and biological activities of Clausena lansium (Lour.) Skeels (Rutaceae) growing in Vietnam has been done. Phytochemical investigation of n-hexane extract led to the isolation of five compounds: dihydroindicolactone (1), 8-geranyloxy psoralen (2), imperatorin (3), heraclenol (4) and indicolactone (5), in which this is the first report on the presence of dihydroindicolactone (1). Their structures were elucidated based on LC/MS/NMR hyphenated techniques as well as comparison with those of literature data. The n-hexane extract and its subfractions, ethanol 95% extract and several isolated compounds were evaluated for antifungal activity.

9.Observation on the result of treament of thyroid nucleus tumor by infection of ethanol in to the tumor through skin
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;469(12):46-47
From 1998 to 2002, 117 patients (99 females, 18 males, aged 17-69) with thyroid nucleus tumors at Hospital 7 in Hai Duong and Hospital Buu Dien I in Hanoi was given percutaneous injected ethanol. Among 82/117 patients (70.1%) good results and 29/117 (24.8%) moderate results achieved. With mononucleus tumor 67 patients had got good results, 15 with moderate results and 2 without results. With polynucleus tumor, 15 patients had got good results, 14 moderate results and 4 without result. The treatment was safe complications were not severe and easy to manage

Conventional extraction of oil and azadirachtin, a botanical insecticide, from Azadirachta indica involves defatting the seeds and leaves using hexane followed by azadirachtin extraction with a polar solvent. In order to simplify the process while maintaining the yield we explored a binary extraction approach using Soxhlet extraction device and hexane and ethanol as non-polar and polar solvents at various ratios and extraction times. The highest oil and azadirachtin yields were obtained at 6 h extraction time using a 50:50 solvent mixture for both neem leaves (44.7 wt%, 720 mg(Aza)/kg(leaves)) and seeds (53.5 wt%, 1045 mg(Aza)/kg(seeds)), respectively.
