Curcuma wenyujin, as one of the eight Daodi-herbs in Zhejiang province, is widely used. It has the effects of eliminating stasis and dissipating mass, moving Qi and activating blood, and clearing heart and relieving depression. Modern studies have shown that it has anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidation, anti-thrombus and liver-protecting effects and mainly contains sesquiterpenoids, monoterpenoids, diterpenoids, and curcumins. This paper reviews the research progress in the chemical constituents and pharmacological effects of C. wenyujin in the last decade, discusses the modern clinical applications combined with the traditional efficacy, and predicts its quality markers(Q-markers) from plant consanguinity, medicinal properties, efficacy, processing and measurability of chemical components based on the theory of Q-markers, so as to provide a reference for the establishment of a scientific quality evaluation system and the research and application of this herb in the future.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the preparation and characteristics of curcumin phospholipid complex, including the effects of reaction time, reaction solvent, reaction concentration and reaction temperature. Preparation technology resulted in that 0.5 g curcumin and 10 g soy phospholipid dissolved in 100 mL anhydrous alcohol, were stirred 1 h in 50 degrees C waterbath, then steamed alcohol in decompression, collected solid residue and vacuum dried for 12 h. The physicochemical properties for the new complex including IR spectrometer, mass spectrograph and HNMR equipment were detected. As a result, the formation of the complex is based on the reaction between phospholipid polar group rounding phosphorus atom and curcumin. This result gave the evidence for the formation mechanism of phospholipid complex.

Background: Curcuminoid in crocus has a wide spectrum of therapeutic effects such as antitumor and anti-inflammatory effects, including antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antispasmodic activities. Curcuminoid \ufffd?biofavonoid, a component of Cucuma longa L is attracting attention of researchers because of their effects and low toxicity. Objectives:To evaluate the hepatoprotective effect of curcuminoid on acute liver injury induced by carbon tetraclorid (CCl4 and paracetamol (PAR) in mice.) Subjects and method: Curcuminoid at doses of 60mg/kg and 120mg/kg were used in 8 consecutive days before hepatotoxins ( CCl4 0.5ml/kg in olive oil or PAR 400mg/kg) in mice.Results & Conclusion: Curcuminoid has hepatoprotective effect, expressed by reductions of serum levels of ALT, AST and liver histopathological injuries, in comparison with the control group ( which didn\u2019t use any drug). Curcuminoid at doses of 60mg/kg and 120mg/kg have hepatoprotective effect on acute liverinjury induced by carbon tetraclorid and paracetamol in mice. Curcuminoid at two different doses and silymarin at a dose 67mg/kg. The result showed that just low dose of curcuminoid (60mg/kg in mice) was enough to protect liver. Curcuma kwangsiensis root tuber is a widely used genuine medicinal material in Guangxi, with the main active components of terpenoids and curcumins. It has the effects of promoting blood circulation to relieve pain, moving Qi to relieve depression, clearing heart and cooling blood, promoting gallbladder function and anti-icterus. Modern research has proved its functions in liver protection, anti-tumor, anti-oxidation, blood lipid reduction and immunosuppression. Considering the research progress of C. kwangsiensis root tubers and the core concept of quality marker(Q-marker), we predicted the Q-markers of C. kwangsiensis root tubers from plant phylogeny, chemical component specificity, traditional pharmacodynamic properties, new pharmacodynamic uses, chemical component measurability, processing methods, compatibility, and components migrating to blood. Curcumin, curcumol, curcumadiol, curcumenol, curdione, germacrone, and β-elemene may be the possible Q-markers. Based on the predicted Q-markers, the mechanisms of the liver-protecting and anti-tumor activities of C. kwangsiensis root tubers were analyzed. AKT1, IL6, EGFR, and STAT3 were identified as the key targets, and neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction signaling pathway, nitrogen metabolism pathway, cancer pathway, and hepatitis B pathway were the major involved pathways. This review provides a basis for the quality evaluation and product development of C. kwangsiensis root tubers and gives insights into the research on Chinese medicinal materials.

The aim of the study was to investigate the sesquiterpene constituents from the rhizomes of Curcuma wenyujin Y. H. Chen et C. Ling. The isolation and purification of the constituents from the 50% EtOH extracts of the rhizomes were performed with repeated column chromatography over sillica gel and macroporous resin. Eight sesquiterpenes were obtained and identified as wenyujinlactone A (1), neolitamone A (2), zedoarondiol (3), isozedoarondiol (4), aerugidiol (5), curcumol (6), curdione (7) and (1R, 10R)-epoxy-(-)-1, 10-dihydrocurdine (8) by means of spectral analysis. Among them, compound 1 was found to be a new eudesmane sesquiterpene lactone, whilst compounds 2-5 were obtained from this plant for the first time.

OBJECTIVETo optimize the stir-baking with vinegar technology for Curcumae Radix.

METHODThe intrinsic quality (the content of Curcumin) and traditional outward appearance were chosen as indexes. The best technology was determined by orthogonal test L9 (3(4)). The factors of the moistening time, stir-baking temperature and stir-baking time were investigated.

RESULTThe optimal technology was as follows: the quantity of vinegar was 10%, the moistening time was 10 min, the stir-baking temperature was 130 degrees C and the stir-baking time was 10 min.

CONCLUSIONThe optimal stir-baking with vinegar technology for Curcumae Radix is reasonable, which can be used to guide the standardized production of Curcumae Radix stir-baked with vinegar.

OBJECTIVETo study the fingerprint of Zedoary Turmeric Oil (ZTO) as the bulk drug of Kingkong Elemene for making it safe, effective, stable, and controllable.

METHODSFingerprints were detected by gas chromatography. β-elemene peak was regarded as reference peak (S). The relative peak area of each common peak and the relative retention time were calculated. With a total of modes for reference, the fingerprints of 10 batches of Kingkong ZTO were detected, and their similarity was calculated by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) fingerprint similarity calculation software.

RESULTSThe determination method was stable and reliable. Totally 19 common characteristic peaks of Kingkong ZTO was found. The fingerprint similarity of these batches of Kingkong ZTO were not lower than 0.96.

CONCLUSIONSGas chromatography for detecting the fingerprint of Kingkong ZTO was reliable and repeatable. The established fingerprint of Kingkong ZTO could guarantee the quality stability and safety of different product batches.

OBJECTIVETo prepare curcumin albumin nanosuspensions and study its release characteristics in vitro.

METHODCurcumin albumin nanosuspensions were prepared by solvent evaporation method. The nanosuspensions were characterized in terms of morphology, size, encapsulation efficiency and in vitro drug release.

RESULTThe mean size of albumin nanosuspensions before lyophilization was 245.2 nm and 240.3 nm after reconstitution. The distribution of particle size was uniform. The encapsulation efficiency was (42.39 +/- 0.91)%. In vitro release study revealed that the 72 h accumulative release percentage reached 96%.

CONCLUSIONThe method described to prepare curcumin albumin nanosuspensions is simple. It might be a novel vehicle potentially for nanoparticle drug delivery system of curcumin.

OBJECTIVETo establish a method to determine the content of Curcumol in Rhizoma Curcumae.

METHODThe samples were determined by GC on a HP-5 column (0.32 mm x 30 m, 0.25 micron), Inlet temperature 200 degrees C, FID 250 degrees C, flow 1.0 mL x min(-1), splitless. Temperature programming started at 60 degrees C, holding for 4 min, then increased to 210 degrees C at a rate of 3 degrees C x min(-1).

RESULTThe calibration curve of curcumol is linear over the range of 40.0-2,000 microg x mL(-1), r = 0.9997. The high and low additive recovery were 95.01% (RSD 2.52%), 96.46% (RSD 2.86%).

CONCLUSIONThis method was accurate and reliable with a good reproducibility, and the procedure of samples pretreatment is simple.

The dynamic accumulation rule of active substances in medicinal plants is of great value not only for medicinal material production and application,but also for the genetic mechanism study on the formation of medicinal ingredients,especially vital to guide medicinal material collection as well as experiment material selection and candidate gene screening in the analysis of biosynthesis pathway. This study investigated the accumulation of curcumins and terpenoids,and the biosynthesis of these metabolites,which are the active metabolites in Curcuma longa,a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine. Rhizoma of C. longa from leaf growing period,rhizome swelling period and dry matter accumulating period were used as experimental materials,to analyze the changes of metabolites and biosynthesis in the three periods by comparative transcriptome and metabolomes analysis.The results indicated that terpenoids accumulation and biosynthesis mainly occurred in leaf growing period,while curcumin accumulation and biosynthesis mainly occurred in dry matter accumulating period. Therefore,we suggested that turmeric rhizomes in leaf growth period were suitable for terpenoids biosynthetic pathway characterization,and rhizome in accumulation of dry matter period was suitable for curcuminoid biosynthesis pathway characterization. This study provides references for medicinal materialproduction and application,as well as biopathway analysis of active compounds for C. longa.
