ABSTRACT
Educational landscape has changed drastically over the past decades with the integration of technology
to support the role of educators. The objectives of this study were to examine the use of social
media application among dental students and to investigate significant demographic variables with
regard to social media use for academic purposes. All dental students across all academic years were
invited to participate in a self-administered questionnaire (content validated, pre-tested) survey
conducted online via Google Forms. Overall response rate was 67.8%. Of the 244 respondents,
99.1% owned smartphones, with a majority of them were iPhone and Android users. Notably, 91.4%
of the respondents had access to internet data via a third generation (3G) mobile carrier and WiFi connection. A majority of the respondents (97.1%) used social media to communicate or connect
with friends whereas 5.7% of them used it for business purposes. There was no significant association
between gender, year of study and type of internet access with the mean of social media usage for
academic purposes (p > 0.05). Most of the respondents preferred YouTube (74.6%) and Google
(73.7%) for seeking information in their study. In conclusion, we found that majority of respondents had
acknowledged the importance of social media in education. Our findings suggest the potential value of
integrating social media in teaching and learning activities to enhance students’ learning experience.

3.Online learning in nursing: Concept analysis
Philippine Journal of Nursing 2022;92(1):64-70
Online learning in nursing is a controversial idea that is viewed as a hindrance to the holistic learning of an individual, however, it was the only solution to prioritize the safety of students during the COVID-19 pandemic. This concepts aims to give a clear approach to how online learning will occur successfully in nursing education. The method used in intellectualizing the concept was Walker and Avant’s approach. The attributes of online learning involve: 1.) platform with the use of devices to create a classroom community; 2.) virtual schooling at home; 3.) entertainment and leisure activity; and 4.) enhanced with synchronous online classes and asynchronous video instruction. Apart from these attributes, the schema of nursing students needs to be addressed and enhanced through the delivery of learning by giving importance to visual, audio, read and/or writing, and kinesthetic learning styles fueled with the right attitude and technological competency.

ABSTRACT
Education worldwide has been conducted in the traditional face-to-face classroom teaching style for ages,
and this includes the education in dentistry. Since the introduction of online education and distance
learning, teaching institutions have gradually made e-learning an integral part of teaching and learning
activities. With the emergence of COVID-19 pandemic and closure of teaching institutions worldwide,
the faculty of dentistry is amongst the many that were forced to leap onto the online education field
abruptly. There is a sudden need for educators to resort to online teaching and e-learning becomes an
essential tool to be developed as an alternative to traditional education methods. This article serves as a
review to explore and discuss the common concerns and institutional readiness in delivering e-learning
and review the methods currently utilised during this time of crisis.

Journal of Korean Society of Medical Informatics 1999;5(3):139-148
An internet-based distance learning system was developed for two courses system analysis/database and case-control study, to supplement a regular in-class lecture as an experimental basis. This study was conducted to evaluate its effectiveness in terms of satisfaction level. The professors who were in charge of courses designed the curriculum and prepared the contents in such a way to be suitable to the distance learning. They also conducted the classes accordingly. According to the survey conducted from 21 graduate school students, 66.7% of them were satisfied with the system and 76.2% of them stated that they would recommend this system to other subjects. Specifically, 78.6% of them were satisfied because it provided sites where they could get assistance on their study, 75% of them satisfied because they could concentrate better on their work, and 75% of them satisfied because the information on the internet was directly related with their class contents, 83.3% of them were satisfied because of appropriateness of fonts and organization factors of the sites that have information, and 80% were satisfied because of the adequate quantity of information and speed.

Student nurses must be competently prepared to address the rising human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic in the Philippines. This article presents the development and effect of the online HIV Prevention and Care Training (HPCT) program for student nurses. The Iowa Model-Revised guided the development of the program. Literature review, student and faculty engagements, advocate participation, resources and protocol assessment, and pre-HPCT survey analysis were systematically performed to determine the contents and delivery of the program. The participants were 2nd and 3rd year level student nurses who were asked to answer the pre- and post-HPCT online surveys containing sociodemographic, HIV knowledge, attitudes, and perceived practices, and program evaluation questionnaires. Descriptive and inferential statistics were performed using SPSS version 23. Student nurses in the post-HPCTsurvey obtained significantly higher HIV knowledge scale mean scores (mean=18.22, SD=4.138) than those in the pre-HPCT survey (mean=15.01, SD=4.069) (p=.000). Pre- to post-HPCT survey revealed significant decreases in the proportions of student nurses who agreed on the following: HIV-positive patients should not be put in rooms with other patients when admitted to hospital (44.3%, 31.6%; p=.004); the need to worry about putting family and friends at risk of contracting the disease when caring for a person with HIV/AIDS (39.7%, 26.4%; p=.002); and healthcare workers are worried of getting HIV/AIDS from caring for a person with HIV/AIDS in their work environment (47.2%, 37.5%; p=.011). Significantly, more student nurses in the post-HPCT survey agreed in all the items of the HIV practice scale than those in the pre-HPCT survey. The online HPCTprogram was acceptable with beneficial effects on student nurses' HIV knowledge, attitudes, and perceived practices. There is a need to highlight basic HIV concepts and integrate HIV developments in the education of student nurses.

Korean Journal of Medical Education 2005;17(2):135-150
PURPOSE: This study was designed to analyze the current status of multicampus medical education in Korea, to identify its educational significance, and to develop strategies for overcoming such disadvantages. METHODS: The logistic data were collected from 41 medical schools, and the educational impacts based on the location of campuses and clinical teaching hospitals, types of education, major functions, and collaboration system between campuses were analyzed. RESULTS: 35 from 41 medical schools ran various forms of multicampus education, and only 8 claimed a system that bridged the school campus and teaching hospital (s). However, none were equipped with any form of meaningful liaison accommodating a distant learning system between learning centers. Regardless, the advantages of multicampus school system aimed to provide a wide range of learning experiences, serious disadvantages remained without the system developing an effective method for overcoming difficulties of communication or establishing an achievement to reach a common educational consensus. CONCLUSION: Various advantages of multicampus system in terms of producing pleuripotential physicians have been rationalized, but any measures for their effective collaboration remains limited. This paper stresses the development of a responsible unit for better support between school campus and clinical teaching centers in multicampus curriculum planning. It is also crucial to design an educational communication channel between them.

Journal of Korean Society of Medical Informatics 2001;7(4):121-129
We developed a prototype of web-based instruction(WBI) program to provide more convenient and more effective service to the public health officials. This web-based instruction program had specific objectives on vaccination for the public health officials who were working for national immunization program. This course had 21 chapters composed of hypertext or voice-based instruction. Using the WBI courseware of Korean Officials Trainging Institution(KOTI), 32 public health official volunteers joined this prototype 2 week program in April 2001. A Auestionnaire survey for evaluation of subjective satisfaction and related factors, cyber-education behavior, and internet using behavior was performed in April, 2001. Among the answered 29 subjects, 24 were female(82.8%). Mean age was 36.6% 6.16. 79.3% of the 29 subjects connected internet in their office. The highest frequent study duration was < 1 hr(51.7%) per connection. They represented relatively high subjective satisfaction in education form(78.6%), and contents(85.7%). But 62.3% of these subjects answered the subjective relative effectiveness score(which was as 100 in case of classical lecture form) was lower than 100. The place to connect internet was only statistically significant factor between these two groups in bivariable analysis. But we could not found any significant factors in multivariate analysis. 89.7% of the subjects answered they would like to participate any more WBI courses serviced by Korean National Health Institute. This study had restriction of small sample size.

Journal of Korean Society of Medical Informatics 2001;7(4):109-119
Health and Welfare Training Center of Korean National Institute of Health (KNIH) has developed various education curricula for the officials who involved in the public health or welfare sectors. Still almost all education programs are off-line based. In off-line settings, both the lecturers and the students should come to KNIH from their counties to join the education programs, and it is impossible for the students to review or to re-practice the education contents. From September to October, 2000, we conducted a basic survey to evaluate the information infrastructure, internet use and attitude to the cyber education. The 183 institutions and 548 public health officials answered our questionnaire. The informationa infrastructure of each institution was not satisfactory for distance education via world wide web. The proportion of e-mail user was only about 62% of the answered subjects. But cyber- education was highly needed in both institutions and the surveyed officials. They answered that they would actively participate in the cyber-education(97%). The officials expected that the online education would be effective to acquire information, to increase the chance for participation and to reduce the education cost. The expected barriers of the cyber-education were the overload when they should undergo simultaneously education and working, lack of proper infrastructure, disinterest of their low capability of internet use.

As digital technologies develop further, computer and communication networks combined more and more. In addition, the integrated systems of broadcasting and communication accelerate the disappearance of business borderline between them.Intemet broadcasting technology such as Video on Demand(VOD) system is a good example. There are also digitized, two-way communication systems such as web-casting, satellite and cable communication networks In order to get better information more effectively in the modern society, the authors needed to actively deal with multimedia contents provided by new media system, such as video-conferencing, distance education, Internet broadcasting, and things go on.This was the way to satisfy customers desire for better services in medical area. Consequently, it became possible to practice telemedicine, including distance medical examination and treatment, counseling, and education. The updated networksystems using ISDN, optical lines, microwaves and multi-channel satellite can be utilized for a video-conferencing system to support an effective telemedicine. In order to establish and execute national information policies effectively, it is requiredthat the laws, regulations, and the organizations related to broadcasting and communication matters need to be modified. The purpose of this paper is to suggest a model of a medical web- casting system with high cost-effectiveness. This has been supported by our experience in establishing an internet broadcasting system at a general hospital.
