To investigate the relationship between the expression of death associated protein kinase (DAPK) gene and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The expression of DAPK gene in OSCC was detected by semi-quantitive RT-PCR. The results showed that the expression of DAPK gene was down regulated significantly, which may relate to the tumorigenesis and development of OSCC. The detection of DAPK gene may act as an index in OSCC dignosis.

Objective: To evaluate the application of two-dimension and color Doppler ultrasound in diagnosis and differential diagnosis of fascial space infection in maxillofacial region. Methods: Retrospective analysis was conducted on 87 cases of maxillofacial space infections, among which there were 6 suspected cases of accompanying tumor. Results: In the 87 cases, 53 had abscess formation, confirmed by operative drainage or puncture biopsy. The pathological studies revealed 2 cases of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and 1 case of branchial cleft cyst accompanied with infection. The 3 cases showed characteristic appearance in ultrasonic imaging. The space infection presented stronger echogenicity than that in tumors. In this study, 95% (83/87) cases showed grey or medium echogenic dots, while 4.5% (4/87) cases did not show obvious echogenic dots due to a large amount of abscess, and 2 cases of tumors, however, did not show any echogenic dots. In addition, 87% (76/87) cases had few blood flow in the lesion areas, and 22% (2/87) cases had much blood flow in the lesion areas. All cases showed that the lesion areas and the blood flow reduced obviously with enhanced echo following anti-inflammatory treatment except 2 cases accompanied with tumor without obvious changes in lesion areas and blood flow. Conclusion: The ultrasonic diagnosis with two dimension and color Doppler ultrasound has high accuracy in diagnosis of maxillofacial space infection, with accordance rate up to 96.6%, much higer than CT/MRI. It is suggested that the two dimension and color Doppler ultrasound can be used as a prior choice of diagnosis.

Objective: To investigate the effects of nerve growth factor(NGF) on the differentiation of goat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) into osteoblasts. Methods: The goat BMSCs were cultured in vitro and the marker proteins on the BMSCs surface were identified by flow cytometry. The third passage of BMSCs were randomly divided into blank control group, osteoblasts control group, NGF group and experimental group. The activities of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and osteocalcin (0C) were examined and the of von Kossa staining method was used to observe the osteogenic differentiation. Results: CD90 and CD105 were strong positive while the CD34 and CD45 were negatively expressed in BMSCs. The activities of ALP and OC was significantly higher in the experimental group than that in the other three groups(P<0.05). The staining of von Kossa was positive and the black calcium nodules were appeared in the the osteoblasts control group. The number and the area of the calcium nodules were greater in the experimental group. But there were no significant differences of each index between the NGF group and the blank control group. Conclusion: NGF can′t induce goats BMSCs to osteoblasts, but can clearly promote the differentiation of goats BMSCs.

The extracted human maxillary central incisors were endodontically treated and restored with glass-fiber post. Then they were randomly divided into four groups and tested. Results showed that groups with ferrule more than 2 mm had higher fracture resistence than others.

Crossbite of upper and lower second molars is a common malocclusion. It is difficult to treat such cases. 4 kinds of treatments according to different situations are recommended. One is a mutual elastics on the upper and lower teeth. The second method is to move upper and lower teeth by archwire lingually and bucally. The third is to extract the second molars, while the third molars drift automatically. The fourth is using mini-implant as an anchorage to move the teeth to correct position. This article evaluated the advantages and disadvantages of the 4 kinds of methods. We also discussed how to choose the appliances as well as what we should pay attention to treat this malocclusion.

6 OSAS patients wore the appliance. Polysomnographic monitoring and cephalometric analysis were performed before and after treatment to analyze the effect of the appliance. With the appliance on after one month, the patients felt better. The values of AHI decreased significantly(P<0.01), and the lowest SaO_2 increased significantly(P<0.01).Cephalometric analysis showed a widened airway(P<0.05)after treatment. The results showed that TMJ appliance is an easy and effective treatment of OSAS.
8.A case report of angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and the experience of treatment
Journal of Practical Stomatology 2010;26(1):119-121
AFH is a singular osculant tumor and difficult to be diagnosed. A case of AFH was treated in the author's department sucessfully. The author retrospected the course of the treatment and regarded that expanded excision is necessary and radiolagical therapy after operation is helpful.

Investigate the cleaning ability of manual ProTaper on mandibular second molars with C-shaped (c-shaped root) or normal root canal(separated root). Twenty mandibular second molars with C-shaped root or with separated roots were sectioned at 3.0, 5.5 and 8.0 mm from the root apex. The images of pre-preparation and F1, F2, and F3-prepapared of manual ProTaper were captured respectively. The cross-sectional areas of the canals were measured and the formula of area after treatment/area before treatment was used to calculate the area ratio. The data were analyzed by SPSS 10.0. The results showed that there was no statistically difference between cross-section root canal area ratios in two groups. Significant differences were found between the cross-section canal area ratio of F1 and F2, F1 and F3 at section 5 mm of S group, and F1 and F3 at section 3 mm of C group. The results suggested that the increasing of cross-section ratio of the two kinds of canals was not obviously concerned with their anatomical morphology.

The number of root canals varies most in the areas of mandibular anterior teeth, maxillary and mandibular premolars, and premolars. Generally, The mandibular anterior teeth have one root canal, but data suggest that the anatomical morphology of the root canals of mandibular incisors varies greatly, which easily leads to the neglect of root canals in endodontic treatment. This report described the case of a mother and a daughter whose mandibular anterior teeth have two symmetrical root canals.
