1.The selection of sperm in intracytoplasmic sperm injection
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2005;10(1):6-8
Study on 50 cases treated by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) at Tu Du Hospital. There were 490 sperm injected oocytes. There wasn’t difference between fertilization rates of injected ovule with normal sperm and with abnormal sperm. The embryo development rate from fertilized oocytes is better if normal sperm were injected: 25.2% of normal sperm injected oocytes developed into good quality embryos, while none of embryos generated from oocytes injected with abnormal sperm is of good quality. The selection of sperm for ICSI plays an important role in getting high results in ICSI and this procedure should be complied sperm morphologic criteria recommended by WHO in order to improve the fertilization rate and embryo quality

2.Comparative study on efficacy of a new combined vaginal preparation (Neo Penotran) versus Flagystatin in the treatment of common vaginitis
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2005;10(1):6-8
A randomized controlled trial was carried out on two groups of patients who were received either Flagystatine (nystatin 1000000 UI/metronidazol 500 mg) or Neo Penotran (miconazol 100mg/metronidazol 500 mg), twice a day for 7 days. Gynecological and microbiological assessments were carried out before treatment and 14 days after the first visit. In Flagystatine and Neo Penotran groups, clinical cure rates were 42% and 77.9% respectively; microbiological cure rates were 68.2% and 72.1%. In Neo Penotran group, functional symptoms were reduced more than organic symptom (84.8% and 79.1%, respectively). This difference was not so remarkable in Flagystatine group (64.8% and 65.95, respectively). Side effects of Neo Penotran were insignificant. Neo Penotran therapy without supportive treatment had higher efficacy in vaginitis at dosage of two pill a day in 7 days. The drug showed effects in both of function symptoms and organic symptoms, in clinical and paraclinical

3.Vaginal misoprostol versus extra amniotic balloon for second trimester induced abortion
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2005;10(1):13-16
The study was carried out at Hung Vuong Hospital in 1998 to compare vaginal misoprostol with extra-amniotic balloon to induce abortion in second trimester. Patients were received either 800mcg misoprostol vaginally (n=87) or 500ml of 0.9% NaCl solution inserted into extra-amniotic cavity (n= 93) for induced abortion. Vaginal misoprostol was repeated 24-hourly for maximum of three times. The abortion rates were 98.9% and 96.8% for misoprostol and balloon group, respectively. A second attempt was need in approximate one third of patients in misoprostol group and 10% in balloon group. Side effects of misoprostol were mild and transient. Vaginal misoprostol is as effective as balloon for induced abortion in second trimester. Misoprostol is cheap and easily stored and used. Vaginal misoprostol could be considered as an alternative to balloon for induced abortion

4.A case of abruptio placentae after snake bite in Lamdong.
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2005;10(1):17-19
A rare case of venomous snakebite is reported. Patient is a 35 year old woman with 6th pregnancy of 37-week gestational age. She was presented with a green pit viper snake bite on right foot associated with severe venom poisoning symptoms leading to fetal death and abruptio placentae, severe coagulation disorder with undetectable fibrinogen level. Blood transfusion, cesarean section and hysterectomy were done. After operation, patient’s clinical status was relatively stable but bleeding persisted 6 days after snakebite. Blood coagulation was only improved after administration of 3 doses of specific antivenomous sera

5.Isosexual precocious pseudopuberty: a case report
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2005;10(1):20-20
Report a case of patient Tran Đ.V. born at December 26th 2002 in Ninh Thuan district, Khanh Hoa province, admitted hospital at November 25th 2003 due to hirsutism and developed genitalia. Ultrasound and CT scan examinations showed a mass in his right adrenal gland, which was subsequently removed surgically. The histopathological findings were consistent with an adreno-cortical carcinoma. This is a rare tumor with frequency 1/10.000 adrenal tumors in adult. In children, there are some cases and most frequently in girls. Adreno-cortical carcinoma combining with isosexual precocious pseudopuberty is rarer in boys

6.Prostate cancer
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2005;10(1):21-27
Prostate cancer is the second leading cancer affecting men after lung cancer. The incidence increase proportionally with older age: 30% in 50-59 years old group, 40% in 60-70 years old group, 67% in 80-89 years old group, 100% in over 100 years old group. There were about 180.000 cases with prostate cancer in America in 2000 year. The disease is more common in Europe countries than that in Asian countries, and more common in black people than in white people. The ratio of prostate cancer in people with meat and fat diet is higher than that in people with vegetables and soy-bean diet. The most effective treatment is local treatment: prostatectomy or radiotherapy with model technique. Early detection is according to PSA control. It is necessary to test PSA for all over 55 years people

7.Lamivudine treatment in patients with chronic hepatitis B
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2003;8(2):72-74
62 chronic hepatitis B patients (having liver enzym level 2 times higher than normal level) were treated orally by 100mg lamivudine a day. After 1 year treatment, in 24/62 cases (38%), HBeAg(+) serum sustainable HBeAg seroconversion was 53% in 6 months follow up after lamivudin discontinouation. Liver enzymes level become normal and no serious adverse reaction was notified.

8.Investigation of potential predictors in severe head injuries
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2003;8(2):75-78
Among 162 patients with head injury treated in Cho Ray Hospital. Mortality 36.3% of the whole. Multivariant regressive analysis showed that: Glasgow coma scale score (p<0.001), pupil reflex (p=0.027), subdural hematoma on CT (p=0.001) were strongly correlated with the outcome 48 hours after the injury.

9.Pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis in Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital: a case report
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2003;8(2):104-106
This rare condition was diagnosed in the stage of a history of resection of left renal tumor of angiomyolipoma and recurrant pneumothrax with PCR of positive tuberculosis bacilla, special chest CT scan with thin wall cyst. These female patients are in reproductive age, using consistantly sex hormone. The prognosis is similar with COPD. Early detection and treatment of the case slowers the progression of disease.

10.Serological surveillance of dengue hemorrhagic fever epidemics in 19 Southern provinces of Vietnam in the year 2001
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2003;8(2):107-111
In the year 2001, the Arbo virus Laboratory had received Dengue hemorrhagic fever samples from 19 provincial center for Preventive Medicine to isolate virus. 83 dengue viruses of 4 type were detected. Among them, the two main germs were dengue 2 and dengue 4. Viruses were detected mainly in infected children with hemorrhagic fever of I-II degree. Dengue 2 was the causative agent of DHF of I-III degree with a higher number of cases than other serotypes. 4.046 sera samples was examined by Mac ELISA, among them 56.13% was (+). However in Ma-ELISA(+) regions, there is no effective methods for dengue control.
