PURPOSE: For the production and evaluation of the tissue-equivalent phantom. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We used agarous gel and oil as a basic component of the mixture and added Tween 80 for the stabilization of phantoms. We did the test for homogeneity and measured T1 and T2 relexation times of each phantom tube. RESULTS: T1 relaxation time ranged from 642 to 2781 msec and T2 relaxation times from 42 to 157 msec. Each phantom was significantly different in T1 relaxation time and T2 relaxation time (p < .0001). CONCLUSION: Tissue equivalent phantom may provide good information on the optimal sequence before MR imaging of patients and may be valuable if it is used with the patients' MR imaging.

OBJECTIVE: ADHD has been known as a psychiatric disorder in childhood associated with dopamine dysregulation. In the present study, we investigated dopamine transporter (DAT) density using I-123N-(3-iodopropen-2-yl)-2beta-carbomethoxy-3beta-(4-chlorophenyl) tropane (I-123-IPT)-SPECT in children with ADHD on the hypothesis that alterations of DAT density in the basal ganglia were suggestive of dopaminergic dysfunction in children with ADHD. METHODS: Nine drug-naive children with ADHD and six normal children were included in the study. We performed brain SPECT two hours after the intravenous administration of I-123-IPT and made both quantitative and qualitative analyses using the obtained SPECT data, which were reconstructed for the assessment of specific/nonspecific DAT binding ratios in the basal ganglia. We then investigated the correlation between ADHD Rating Scale (ARS) scores of children with ADHD and specific/nonspecific DAT binding ratios in the basal ganglia. RESULTS: Children with ADHD had significantly greater specific/nonspecific DAT binding ratio of the basal ganglia comparing to normal children. However, no significant correlation were found between ARS scores of children with ADHD and specific/nonspecific DAT binding ratio of basal ganglia in children with ADHD. CONCLUSION: These findings support the complex dysregulation of the dopaminergic neurotransmitter system in children with ADHD.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 2008;44(3):163-165
Kissing aneurysms are the rare type of multiple aneurysms. They are adjacent aneurysms of different origin arteries in the same region, which require great care in diagnosis and treatment. We report a case of kissing aneurysms at the anterior communicating artery (AcomA) which were treated by endovascular coil embolization.

Korean Journal of Orthodontics 2002;32(6):413-424
Preadolescent children with deficient maxillae are suitable candidates for the maxillary protraction appliance(MPA). The theoretical effect of the MPA is protraction or anterior displacement of the maxilla. However, it is known that complex effects such as anterior displacement of the maxillary teeth, downward and backward rotation of the mandible, linguoversion of the mandibular anterior incisors, are known to play a role in improving the Cl III malocclusion. There have been much studies with regard to maxillary protraction, but the different effects of MPAs depending on the vertical facial pattern are not known precisely. This study was based on 67 patients (31 males, 36 females) aged from 6 years 6 months to 13 years 3months, who visited the Dept. of Orthodontics at Yonsei Univ., Dental Hospital and diagnosed as skeletal Class III with maxillary deficiency. They were divided into 3 groups (low, average, high angle groups) depending on gonial angle and the SNMP (Go-Gn) angle, respectively. Pretreatment and post-treatment lateral cephalograms were used to compare the effects of MPA and the following conclusions were obtained: 1) A significantly large amount of backward movement of the B point was observed in patients with a low SNMP angle. Those with a high SNMP angle had significant forward movement at A point. 2) The patients with low gonial angle had the least forward movement at the A point, and those with a high angle had more forward movement. 3) In comparing the arcTan of the A point, the high angle group showed more horizontal movement while the low angle group showed more vertical movement. 4) There was no significance between the treatment duration of the SNMP and the Gonial angle groups.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of reported nontyphoidal Salmonellosis has increased during last decade in Korea. Salmonella typhimurium and Salmonella enteritidis are two major serotypes in nontyhoidal Salmonella. To determine the nature of potential outbreak S. typhimurium infection in a community, we retrospectively evaluated clinical and epidemiologic features of S. typhimurium infections and performed pulsed-field gel electrophoresis(PFGE) to investigate a genetic relatedness of S. typhimurium isolated in Guro Hospital. METHODS: From May 1998 to April 1999, a total of 20 S. typhimurium strains were isolated from 18 patients. PFGE patterns were analyzed for 20 S. typhimurium strains Clinical and epidemiological features were evaluated from their medical records. RESULTS: Seventy two percent(13/18) were acute gastroenteritis, and 11 %(2/18) were enteric fever and 16 %(3/18) were intussusception. Seventy eight percent(14 of 18) of patients were six years old or less than. There were two major type(A, B) on PFGE analysis. Eight of 20 strains showed identical PFGE type(A1). Eleven strains were subtypes of A1. One strain showed different type(B). Similarity coefficients between A1 and its subtypes were all over 0.765 and they showed close genetic distance on dendrogrm. Antibiogram of Al eight strains were various. CONCLUSIONS: High genetic relationship among 20 S. typhimurium strains for a year in Guro area indicates that they were possibly originated from one clone and that there might be a common source of infection. More efforts should be directed toward the epidemiological investigation of the cases to detect outbreaks and prevent further spread of the infection.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 2015;57(5):329-334
OBJECTIVE: To comparatively investigate the expression of several integrins in specimens of human bone metastases and degenerative bone tissue. METHODS: Degenerative cancellous tissue was obtained from a sample of human degenerative spine. Thirteen human specimens were obtained from metastatic spine tumors, whose primary cancer was colon cancer (n=3), hepatocellular cancer (n=3), lung cancer (n=4), and breast cancer (n=3). The expression of vimentin and integrins alphav, beta1, and beta3 was assessed in metastatic and degenerative specimens by immunohistochemistry and real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). RESULTS: Immunohistochemical staining showed that vimentin and integrin alphav was broadly expressed in all tissues examined. By contrast, integrin beta1 was weakly expressed only in 38.4% (5/13) of tissues. Integrin beta3 was consistently negative in all cases examined. qRT-PCR analysis showed that vimentin gene expression was higher in all metastatic specimens, as compared to degenerative bone. The gene expression of integrin alphav in breast specimen was significantly higher than others (p=0.045). The gene expression of integrin beta1 was also higher in all metastatic specimens than in degenerative bone tissue. The gene expression of integrin beta3 was variable. CONCLUSION: Spinal metastatic tumors have mesenchymal characteristics such as increased expression of vimentin. The increased expression of integrin alphav and beta1 in spine metastatic tumors suggests that adhesive molecules such as integrin may have implications for the prevention of spine metastasis.
