AIM:To analyze the association between mobile phone addiction and high myopia among college students.METHODS:We conducted a cross-sectional questionnaire survey in December 2022 on all students of a university in Shaanxi Province, and the questionnaire included socio-demographic characteristics, mobile phone addiction, high myopia, and lifestyle. Binary Logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between mobile phone addiction and high myopia among college students.RESULTS:A total of 19 952 college students were included. The prevalence of high myopia was 7.31%. The rate of mobile phone addiction was 25.68%, and the mobile phone addiction score was 37.59±13.38. The incidence of high myopia among college students with mobile phone addiction was higher than non-mobile phone addiction(P<0.001). After adjusting for socio-demographic characteristics and lifestyle, the risk of high myopia among college students with mobile phone addiction was 1.274 times(95%CI:1.131-1.434)higher than non-mobile phone addiction. For each point increase of total mobile phone addiction score, withdrawal symptoms score, salience score, social comfort score, and mood changes score, the risk of high myopia among college students increased by 0.9%(95%CI:1.005-1.013), 2.0%(95%CI:1.010-1.030), 2.6%(95%CI:1.010-1.043), 4.8%(95%CI:1.030-1.066), and 3.3%(95%CI:1.014-1.052), respectively.CONCLUSION:Mobile phone addiction is significantly associated with the increased risk of high myopia among college students, and early intervention of mobile phone use may reduce the risk of high myopia among college students.

BACKGROUND:Eucommia ulmoides has a certain osteogenic effect, which can promote the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts. However,it is unclear whether Eucommia ulmoides has effects on alveolar bone formation and Wnt/β-Catenin signaling pathway. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the mechanism by which Eucommia ulmoides promotes alveolar bone formation in ovariectomized rats based on the Wnt/β-Catenin signaling pathway. METHODS:Sixty female Sprague-Dawley rats were selected and randomly divided into five groups:blank control group,sham-operation group, model group,low-dose group Eucommia ulmoides group, and high-dose Eucommia ulmoides group, with twelve rats in each group.Osteoporosis animal models were constructed by bilateral oophorectomy in the model group and the low-dose and high-dose Eucommia ulmoides groups. The sham-operation group underwent the same method to remove adipose tissue of equal mass around the bilateral ovaries.Three months after surgery, the low-and high-dose Eucommia ulmoides groups were given 2.1 g/kg/d and 4.2 g/kg/d Eucommia ulmoides by gavage, respectively. The sham-operation group and model group were given the same amount of physiological saline by gavage. After 12 weeks of drug intervention, the changes in alveolar bone mass of rats in each group were observed through Micro-CT;hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to observe the pathological structural changes of alveolar bone in rats;enzyme linked immunosorbent assay was used to detect the expression levels of alkaline phosphatase and osteocalcin in the serum of rats;western blot was used to detect the expression levels of β-Catenin and Frizzled9 receptor proteins in the alveolar bone of rats;and real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR was used to detect the expression of osteocalcin,Runt-related transcription factor 2(Runx2),alkaline phosphatase,β-catenin,and frizzled9 mRNAs in alveolar bone tissues of rats. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the blank control group, bone volume fraction, trabecular number, trabecular thickness, and bone mineral density were reduced in the model group(P<0.05),and trabecular separation was elevated(P<0.05).Pathological observation showed that the arrangement of trabeculae was disordered and irregular, the trabeculae were thinned or broken, and the marrow cavity was enlarged in the model group, with a significant reduction in bone volume;the level of alkaline phosphatase in the serum was increased(P<0.05),and the level of osteocalcin was decreased(P<0.05);mRNA expression of alkaline phosphatase,osteocalcin,Runx2,β-catenin,and frizzled9 were decreased(P<0.05);protein expression of β-Catenin and Frizzled9 was decreased(P<0.05).Compared with the model group, the low-and high-dose Eucommia ulmoides groups showed an increase in bone volume fraction, trabecular number, trabecular thickness, and bone mineral density(P<0.05)and a decrease in trabecular separation(P<0.05).In the low-and high-dose Eucommia ulmoides groups, bone trabeculae were slightly aligned and thickened, with a significant increase in bone mass.Compared with the model group, the serum level of alkaline phosphatase was reduced(P<0.05)and the serum level of osteocalcin was elevated(P<0.05)in the low-and high-dose Eucommia ulmoides groups.Compared with the model group, the mRNA expression of alkaline phosphatase,osteocalcin,Runx2,β-catenin,and frizzled9 were increased in the low-and high-dose Eucommia ulmoides groups(P<0.05).Compared with the model group, the protein expression of Frizzled9 was increased in the low-dose Eucommia ulmoides group(P<0.05),while the protein expression of β-Catenin and Frizzled9 was increased in the high-dose Eucommia ulmoides group(P<0.05).Compared with the low-dose Eucommia ulmoides group, the high-dose Eucommia ulmoides group had a more significant improvement in the above indexes. To conclude,Eucommia ulmoides can effectively promote the alveolar bone formation, and its mechanism of action might be related to the activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.

Objective:To compare the clinical efficacy of catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) via the contralateral femoral vein approach (CFVA-CDT) and the calf deep vein approach (CVA-CDT) in the treatment of acute mixed-type lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT).Methods:Patients treated with CFVA-CDT and CVA-CDT for acute mixed-type DVT were retrospectively collected from January 2018 to December 2021, totaling 49 and 32 patients, respectively. The relevant technical indicators, thrombolysis rates in the iliac-femoral vein segment and femoral-popliteal vein segment, clinical efficacy, and the incidence of lower extremity deep vein patency, venous valve insufficiency, and post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS), as well as the severity of chronic venous disease in the affected limb (VCSS score) during a 2-year follow-up period were retrospectively compared between the two venous access CDT groups. The t-test was used for comparing quantitative data, while the chi-square test or Fisher′s exact test was used for categorical data. Results:During CFVA-CDT procedure, 6-8 F vascular sheaths were used, and balloon dilation of 2~6 mm was more frequently employed (65.31%, 32/49) to expand venous stenosis/occlusion segments before successful sheath placement compared to the CVA-CDT group (37.50%, 12/32), and the difference was statistically significant ( P=0.014). In the CVA-CDT group, 31.25% (10/32) of patients had a maximum sheath size of 6 F, while the remainder used 4 or 5 F sheaths. Among them, 34.38% (11/32) of patients required re-puncture of the popliteal or femoral vein for larger sheaths (≥8 F) for thrombus aspiration and subsequent endovascular treatment during or after thrombolysis. The effective thrombolysis rates (≥50%) in the iliac-femoral vein segment were not significantly different between the two groups ( P=0.778). The effective thrombolysis rate of the femoral-popliteal venous segment is related to the presence or absence of popliteal vein opacification on lower extremity venous antegrade venography. There was no significant difference between the groups when the popliteal vein was visualized ( P=1.000). While the popliteal vein was not visualized, the CVA-CDT group (75.0%, 15/20) was significantly better than the CFVA-CDT group (34.38%, 11/32), and the difference was statistically significant ( P=0.004). There was no significant difference in clinical efficacy between the two groups ( P=0.819). During follow-up, the femoral-popliteal vein patency rate in the CVA-CDT group (87.50%, 28/32) was significantly higher than in the CFVA-CDT group (44.90%, 22/49), the difference was statistically significant ( P<0.001). Conclusions:Successful CFVA-CDT requires the assistance of more ancillary devices, while the use of larger sheaths is more limited in CVA-CDT due to the smaller caliber of the calf deep veins. The presence or absence of popliteal vein opacification on lower extremity venous antegrade venography may influence the effective thrombolysis of the femoral-popliteal venous segment thrombus in patients with acute mixed deep vein thrombosis (DVT) treated with CFVA-CDT and CVA-CDT. Compared to CFVA-CDT, CVA-CDT can improve the patency rate of the femoral-popliteal venous segment.

In order to delve into the molecular mechanism underlying the increased pathogenicity of the recombinant Muscovy duck parvovirus(rMDPV)towards Muscovy ducklings, two sub-genom-ic fragments of the rMDPV strain ZW were cloned into the plasmid pBluescript Ⅱ(SK)to gener-ate the recombinant plasmid pZW.A single nucleotide mutation was engineered in the VP3 gene of pZW to discriminate from the parental strain ZW.pZW plasmid-lipid complex was transfected into the chorioallantoic membrane of 11-day-old embryonated Muscovy duck embryos, resulting in res-cue of infectious virus,rZW,carrying the genetic marker. The rescued virus was passaged in 12-day-old embryonated Muscovy duck embryos and exhibited the similar medium embryo lethal dose(ELD50)value and growth curve compared to the parental strain ZW.Both rZW and strain ZW led to 100%mortality in the infection tests performed with 3-day-old Muscovy duckling.Postmortem necropsy revealed a characteristic intestine embolism formed in the rZW-infected ducklings.Taken together, the generation of the infectious clone pZW lays a solid foundation for deciphering the pathogenesis of rMDPV.

Objective:To analyze pancreatic cancer incidence and mortality data in China and worldwide and to provide data for pancreatic cancer prevention and control efforts. Methods:Data of pancreatic cancer incidence and mortality rates, along with historical and predictive data, were obtained from the GLOBOCAN 2022 database. Epidemiological characteristics of pancreatic cancer was analyzed by region, sex, age and Human Development Index (HDI). Spearman's correlation coefficient test was used to assess the relationship between HDI and age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) and age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR).Results:In 2022, the global number of new cases and deaths of pancreatic cancer will be 511 thousand and 467 thousand, respectively, with an ASIR and ASMR of 4.7/10 5 and 4.2/10 5, respectively. North America and Europe had the highest pancreatic cancer incidence and mortality rates of 8.5/10 5 and 7.3/10 5, respectively. Global ASIR and ASMR in men were both 1.4 times higher than those in women. HDI levels were positively correlated with ASIR ( r=0.79, P<0.001) and ASMR ( r=0.78, P<0.001) of pancreatic cancer in all regions. The number of pancreatic cancer cases and deaths in China were 119 thousand and 106 thousand, respectively, while the ASIR and ASMR of pancreatic cancer were 4.4/10 5 and 3.9/10 5, respectively. Both ASIR and ASMR in men were both 1.5 times higher than those in women in China. The number of pancreatic cancer incidence and death cases in China in 2050 is predicted to be 216 thousand and 204 thousand cases, with an increase of 81.5% and 92.5% compared with 2022, respectively. Conclusions:The disease burden of pancreatic cancer varies significantly among different regions, genders and ages. Pancreatic cancer incidence and mortality are positively correlated with HDI. The incidence and mortality rates of pancreatic cancer in China are close to the global average, but the number of new cases and deaths is high. Prevention and control should be strengthened to improve the survival of pancreatic cancer patients.

objective:To investigate the factors influencing failure of preoperative optimisation with exclusive enteral nutrition(EEN)in patients with Crohn's disease(CD)and to construct a predictive model. Methods:Clinical data of 161 patients with Crohn's disease who underwent surgical treatment after preoperative EEN optimization at the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center of General Surgery of the Eastern Theater General Hospital from June 2021 to November 2023 were retrospectively analyzed.Patients were divided into two groups according to the preoperative EEN optimisation effect:optimisation success and optimisation failure.Logistic regression analysis was used to determine the factors influencing optimisation failure, and a column line graphical model was constructed using R4.4.0 software. Results:After at least 4 weeks of EEN treatment,a total of 44 patients(27.33%)failed preoperative optimization.Multifactorial analysis showed that FC>500 μg/g and use of corticosteroids were independent risk factors for failure of preoperative optimization, and an increase in prealbumin after 1 week of treatment was a protective factor for successful preoperative optimization.Based on the results of the multivariate analysis,a column graph was constructed, and the C-index was 0.873(95%CI=0.783~0.964).The calibration curve shows that the probability of failure predicted by the nomogram model prior to optimization is in good agreement with the actual probability. The clinical decision curve confirms that the risk threshold is between 0.03~0.96,and the nomogram model can be used to predict the failure of preoperative EEN optimization over other treatment options.Conclusion:FC>500μg/g and history of corticosteroid use were independent risk factors for failure of preoperative optimization, and an increase in prealbumin after 1 week of treatment was a protective factor for successful preoperative optimization. The nomogram constructed on the basis of these results has a good predictive value and is clinically applicable.

In recent years, the incidence of heat-related diseases has been on a steady upward trend, which is closely associated with environmental factors such as climate change and air pollution.Exposure to a hot environment and/or strenuous physical activities can progress to heat stroke(HS),an acute disease that can lead to death.Current research indicates that gut injury occupies the most crucial initiating position in the pathophysiological changes and pathogenesis of HS.Probiotics can reduce the incidence and mortality of HS through maintaining the health of the gut microbiota, regulating the intestinal immune system, and other effects. In addition, the gut microbiota can construct axis systems to interact with multiple organs such as the liver, lungs, and brain, which is of great significance for alleviating the damage to distant organs caused by HS.This paper reviews the regulation of the gut microbiota by probiotics to improve the intestinal heat tolerance ability and barrier function, aiming to provide references for the prevention and treatment of heat stroke in clinical practice.

Nitrogen dioxide(NO 2)is a prevalent air pollutant that poses significant threats to the environment and human health, emphasizing the urgent need for high-performance NO 2 sensors for effective environmental monitoring at room temperature.Sensors based on metal halide perovskites have emerged as promising candidates for gas detection at room temperature, but their long-term stability remains a major challenge. In this study,a methylamine thiocyanate(MT)-doped FA 0.8Cs 0.2PbI 2Br(PVK)gas sensor(MT-PVK)was prepared using a simple one-step spin-coating method and ethyl acetate(EA)anti-solvent extraction technique. The crystalline structure, chemical composition, and particle morphology of the MT-PVK thin film were characterized. The MT-PVK thin film was then utilized as a gas sensor for NO 2 detection at room temperature. The results demonstrated that the sensor exhibited outstanding selectivity and reversibility at low concentrations of NO 2 gas, with a detection limit as low as 33 ppb(10-9,nL/L).For 10 ppm(10-6,μL/L)NO 2,the sensor showed rapid response and recovery time of only 1.6 s and 27 s,outperforming most traditional metal oxide NO 2 sensors.Furthermore, compared to the original PVK,the MT molecules significantly enhanced the structural and sensing stability of the MT-PVK sensor under high humidity conditions(55%±5%).These findings suggested that MT-doped FA 0.8Cs 0.2PbI 2Br perovskite gas sensors offered a promising pathway for the development of rapid-response gas sensing technologies suitable for room temperature operation.
