Association between platelet indexes and stress hyperglycemia in elderly acute myocardial infarction patients

Abstract:
Objective To guide the antiplatelet therapy for AMI by studying the effect of stress hyperglycemia (SH) on platelet functions.Methods One hundred and fifty-seven AMI patients admitted to our hospital were divided into SH group (n=37),normal blood glucose group (n=80),and DM group (n=40).Their platelet indexes (platelet count,platelet distribution width,platelet mean volume,platelet volume) were detected at admission and on days 7 and 30 after admission.Results The platelet count was significantly less in normal blood glucose group and DM group than in SH group at admission (213.73 ± 51.14 × 109/L,203.36 ± 56.65 × 109/L vs 237.75 ± 67.51 × 109/L,P<0.05) and in DM group than in SH group on day 30 after admission (187.15± 47.22× 109/L vs 222.00±67.22× 109/L,P<0.05).The platelet volume was significantly smaller in DM group than in normal blood glucose group on day 7 after admission (0.17±0.09 vs 0.23±0.11,P<0.05).The platelet count was significantly less in SH group on day 30 than on day 7 after admission (222.00±67.22 × 109/L vs 237.75±67.51 × 109/L,243.45±55.73 × 109/L,P<0.05) and the platelet volume was significantly smaller in SH group on days 7 and 30 than at admission (0.17±0.07 vs 0.25±0.08,P<0.05).Conclusion The platelet activity is higher and the platelet aggregating function is better in AMI patients with SH,it is thus necessary to strengthen antiplatelet aggregation therapy for AMI patients with SH.
