Abstract: Jones fracture, a specialized fracture that occurs at the base of the fifth metatarsal, is located in the junction region of the proximal metaphysis and epiphysis of the metatarsal. Its treatment remains challenging because of its unique location, high functional demands from its victims and a high rate of delayed union or nonunion after surgical or non-surgical treatment. We present a review of recent studies on the mechanisms, risk factors, treatments, and rapid rehabilitation concepts for Jones fracture, hoping to deepen the understanding of the fracture so as to improve its treatment outcomes.
